Condo Vs. House: Which Type of Vacation Home is Right for You?

Purchasing a vacation property is always an exciting time for homebuyers, whether it’s at a golf community, ski resort, or on the beach. Of course, there will often be unique challenges to consider and one decision that buyers are commonly faced with is choosing between a condo or a house. While there’s certainly no right answer, here are the pros and cons of both options to consider before making a purchase.

Pros of a Condo The biggest benefit of a condo is usually that you’re off the hook when it comes to maintenance and repairs, which is invaluable for those who don’t want to be bothered with that type of stuff while on vacation. Additionally, they often have shared access to luxury amenities, like a wellness center, sports facilities and even fine dining.

Cons of a Condo The downside, of course, is that you may not always feel like you have total privacy. Shared walls and close neighbors are not for everyone, but if you’re the type who enjoys a sense of community then that probably won’t be an issue. You’re also more likely to face rules and regulations when it comes to renovating or renting your property.

Pros of a House Having your own house usually means that you’ll benefit from significantly more space and privacy, which can be a deciding factor for some luxury buyers. Furthermore, depending on the neighborhood you live in, you may not have to deal with the same type of restrictions that a condo would face.

Cons of a House The main drawback of a house, however, is that you’re responsible for handling all of the maintenance and repairs. This can be a challenge, particularly if it’s in a harsh environment, like the mountains or near the ocean, which can take a toll on your home. For many luxury buyers, though, a house is worth the extra effort.
